A box in the mail.

One side

And the other.

Largest and smallest.
What's this then?
Well these are all the flies i got in the swap, they landed in the mail this afternoon.

I'm pleased, lots of new fun patterns, some classics and the overall quality of the ties are very good!
I'm especially impressed with Mattias's tiny little #14 Quill Gordon, a true beauty.
He also tied a very nice Alexandra.
I got them all in a box way more fancy then the old hook box i delivered in so i feel i'm gonna have to compensate Mattias in some way for that.
Maybe some nice flies next time we meet.

Some of my other favourites comes from Iceland and i am really looking forward to fishing with any of the flies that have rubber legs, never tried that before.

Cheers!

All the flies are in!

Remember that fly swap i entered in to?

Well, all the flies are in, Mattias is dividing them amongst the participants and me,i'm just looking forward to getting a bunch of new flies, new patterns and new ideas.

All the flies look very nice and i've already started thinking about what spicies i'm going to target with wich fly and what rod to cast them with.

You can have a look at all the flies over at Troutpassion.

Check it out!

There and back again

If Bilbo would have brought a 2 hand rod on his trips instead of a stick.
I wonder wha fishing is like in middle earth.

Anyways...

I'm back from my trip down the country.
Visited family and fished a couple of days.
I've already told you about Gävle so here's Stockholm!

I got picked up by car,the luxury of it was not lost to me, and we arrived at the Stockholm stream at about a quarter to six in the morning.
Just half an hour later the first fish was hooked by Patrick and i jumbled to get the net ready while Mattias got the camera.
Unfortunatly the fish snagged on a rock and got loose.
That one was probably big,the second one he hooked was a bit smaller.

To me it was a moodraiser though, now we knew the fish was there!
We kept on fishing but to little success.
We changed the spot and i really found it wierd and interesting fishing amongst the houses and trying to anchor the line while standing by a wall 5 metres above the water.

My favourite spot of the day was just downstream of the house of government, it was possible to wade and make proper casts.

All and all there were two fish hooked by Patrick but none landed over the day, i got a possible take but it would have just bit the wing of the fly and not the hook.

It was great fun,i delivered the swap flies and i got to do a bit of fishing, talk about fishing with people equally interested and try my luck on the seatrout of our capital.

Mattias in the inner city
A good day and i hope i get to fish with these lads again!

Last piece of the pussle

So here's the last piece of the swap.
The nymph "The Orange Attacker", one of my very best patterns that very seldom fails to deliver fish.
A pure attractor pattern wich sinks fast and fishes deep.

Flyswap update.

I've been thinking for a while about the fly-swap i'm in atm.
I realised that i find Crazy Charlie and the Purple Zonker to both be streamers and for that reason i've swapped the CC for a no-name wetfly with more of a classical look.

So this is what i'm entering in with on the wet fly!

I'm not in any ways claiming to know classical tying but still,i thought i'd give it a try and thought up a simple pattern.

Partridge,Peacock,Blue rooster hackle, silver tinsel, silver wire and silver braid, yellow rooster cape, black rooster hackle and pheasant tippet feather.

Not the fanciest materials and as you notice i don't have the trademark jungle cock that marks many classic wet flies.

Worldwide Flyswap.

So Troutpassion is running a Worldwide Flyswap.

They've been kind enough to include me and i'll be tying 4x10 flies.

I'll be joining in with

Streamer: Purple Zonker
Dry: Lovéus lilla svarta
Nymph: Orange Attacker
Wet: No name Classic Wet

A couple of them are my own patterns (the dry and nymph) and while they all might sound extreme they have all been tested to great success on browns, grayling and rainbow trout as well as perch.

The sort of patterns you go to when the natural ones fails.
Stay tuned for pictures of the flies.

The Streamer: Purple bunny zonker

The wet fly. A no-name classic style wet fly.

The Nymph. The Orange Attacker

The dry fly: Lovéus lilla svarta, a small midge or mosqito pattern.

I've come to realise that i, knowing or unknowing, picked some of the simplest patterns in my flybox for this swap.
Might be a good thing since i have to tie 40 flies (well, 36 as i don't have to tie for myself).
I don't really think any of them are prize winners or flies you would exhibit but they are nice effective patterns.
And as mentioned, they are all tied very quickly, you can easily fill up a box with these sorts of flies in an evening or two.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the others will contribute, so far only Flies over Nebraska have posted any pics.
I like his flies, a bit more on the experimental side, provocative patterns.

Gotta have both, natural and more imaginative.
